This collection of artist books, engraved I, II, III, IV, and V, uses the same structure as Entropy, to instead explore my personal relationship to my father. These objects, small and intimate, become art objects that are meant to be handled. The materialization of my own emotions has an element of detachment due to the book-box in which which the sentiment is being viewed. The text inside reads “She has eye’s just like her father’s, they are blue when skies are gray” (from the song “Gambler” by Fun). Readers are meant to both peer into the box, closed, as well as open it and investigate its movement, meaning, and visual cues. In addition, there is a series of laser-engraved transparent acrylic ”pages” that can be inserted into the front, and when put together form a 3D image of my father’s eyes. While he lost his ability to speak due to his illness, his eyes always showed everything.
