BACK TO DESIGN

As we move through a world that is never-ceasing, all-encompassing flow, consciousness brackets all this stimuli, excludes most of it, and shapes the chosen bits into coherence and. certainty, integrating it with what we know—or think we know—and responding. Design mimics intentionally what consciousness does automatically; bounding and carving up a flow of events, giving it a beginning, a middle and an end, orchestrating it into a coherent pattern language. For both consciousness and its manifestation in design, the construction of stories is primal. The final story matrix uses combinations of abstract form, drawings, manipulated found images and photographs along with the letters of a root action word. Parts of the work incorporate transformation, substitution, and transition boards, in addition to a chosen typeset. The story matrix was built off of visual and linguistic research coming together to create a unified visual concept.
